Way to tear it up!

August 28th, 2010 Jim S No comments

CBC showed strong with Noel K winning the single speed cat today and 4th overall!  Nice strong first 50 Kelly!

The 3rd Annual Rivers edge 50 mile mtb race brings the heat and for good reason.  Fantastic facility and probably the most awesome 12 miles of trails any city has ever seen.  Add that with the best promoter bringing the food, kegs, music and it’s my favorite race of the year.

Looking forward to next year already!

Back at Renne

The first race back to the Wednesday night series is always trial by fire. Way faster than you have probably been riding which is good. Getting your butt kicked is always good. The BikeSource guys are strong in the expert field, and I got a big sandwich of them. Wreck right off the bat with Ben getting the worst end of it. In the end Noel came thru holding second for CBC. Jason who I thought was in front came up on me on lap 2. We ran together for awhile and managed to get one BikeSource guy. Later Jason got another and finished 4th. I think I got 6th with the same BikeSource guy really on my heels. Eric H. did a fine job getting us guys with gears clean into the woods at the start. I was tickled to still see him within sight on that single speed at the end.

Well, that was a hoot!

James C, Scott Webster, Noel and I went down to the 30th annual Rock Hill road race with a plan. The first plan apparently the winner got a hold of, because he time trialed it from the hill we picked to attack all the way home for the win. The second plan was to get Scott in place for the sprint with some last mile pulls. We got Scott lined up for the end pretty well. I think he managed a third place and a third place in the sprints the night before. Scott will be going for an omnium win tomorrow in the crit!

Short Track #4

February 13th, 2010 Jim S No comments

Thanks to Zack Avant for lending his wheel at the last second scramble to find a 29er wheel with a 160 rotor before the super sport, expert race.

Ian used it well taking 1st in supersport!

It was sweet to see Ian, Jason, Michael, Rich, & Chris coming on hard today.  Chris and Rich again worked well together.  Chris finished 3rd expert, by the way, and making it look easy.

For me, after years toiling in single speed short track I might finally have it.  I’m always surprised at how everyone else gets stronger as the series winds down.  One more week to go!

Hard fought battle today!

January 17th, 2010 Jim S 1 comment

People were very gracious in letting the front go through even though I blew it a couple times and went into the woods. I was getting good reports that Ross Dowswell was closing in and that’s never good. The longer the race the stronger Ross gets. We slipped in out of mud and positions till the second to last lap. Ross really took off, but it turned out we still had one more lap to go. We talked quickly and went to do one more. Ross had already put it all out there, so I was able to squeak by. Whew, I really got away with that one! Started off the 2010 Winter Short Track Series with a win.

Great course. Nice setup gang.

I was just hanging on waiting for the switchbacks in the woods every lap where I could wipe my nose while the cross bike guys had 2 hands on the steering.  That was a fun setup.

Thought I was in Belgium running up those long stairs!

Poplar’s is in good shape

January 3rd, 2010 Jim S No comments

Hit Poplar today with Jason and Roger. Trails where nice and crunchy from the freeze, and stayed frozen this afternoon. Nice to finally get some traction in them sandy corners.

Man, Roger is one heck of a mountain biker out there just having fun between training for a ½ Ironman in the spring.

Jason’s Canadian, so it’s like spring out there for him!
